Replit app security: scan your Replit app before launch
How secure is Replit?
Replit gives you a Secrets manager, but the common problems are developers hardcoding keys anyway, environment variables leaking into the client, databases left open, and insecure deployment settings. Replit's AI agent will happily generate all of these while the app keeps working.
Replit is an IDE and AI agent that builds and hosts apps. It has a proper Secrets manager, which helps — but AI-generated code and quick deploys still produce the familiar exposure patterns, especially around secrets and databases.
The common risks in Replit apps
Hardcoded keys instead of Secrets
Despite Replit's Secrets manager, generated code often pastes API keys directly into source, where they end up in the repo and sometimes the client.
Environment variable leaks
Secrets referenced with a client-exposed prefix, or printed in logs, end up readable by users.
Open or misconfigured database
Supabase or other databases wired up without row-level security or with public access leave data reachable by anyone.
Insecure deployment settings
Dev configurations, debug endpoints and permissive CORS sometimes ship straight to production.
How to check your Replit app
- Move every key into Replit Secrets; remove any hardcoded key from source and rotate it.
- Check that no secret is referenced with a client-exposed prefix or logged.
- Enable row-level security on your database and verify logged-out access is blocked.
- Review deployment config for debug endpoints, permissive CORS and exposed files.
Scan your Replit app before you launch
SafeLaunch checks your repo and live site in about 30 seconds and gives you a prompt to paste back into Replit to fix each finding.
Replit security FAQ
Is Replit secure?+–
Replit provides a Secrets manager and hosting; the risk is in generated code that hardcodes keys or leaves a database open. Use Secrets for every key and lock down your database, then scan before launch.
Does Replit keep my API keys safe?+–
Only if you store them in Replit Secrets and reference them server-side. Keys pasted into source or exposed to the client are not protected — rotate any that were.
How do I check a Replit app's security?+–
Run a SafeLaunch scan on the repo and live site to find hardcoded keys, database exposure and deployment issues, with a fix prompt for each.
